1.About these Terms
These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern your use of revel, the website, dashboard and related services at revel.africa (the “Platform”). The Platform is operated by revel (“revel”, “we”, “us”).
When these Terms apply
These Terms form a binding agreement between you and revel when you:
- create an organiser account, by ticking the box to accept them;
- buy or register for a ticket, by clicking “Proceed to payment” after being shown a link to them; or
- otherwise use the Platform, such as browsing events, in which case the parts relevant to that use apply.
If you use the Platform on behalf of a business or organisation, you confirm that you have authority to bind it, and “you” includes that business or organisation.
Who you are dealing with
revel provides the technology that lets organisers publish events, sell tickets and check guests in. The organiser, not revel, puts on the event and is responsible for it, including the venue, performers, safety and admission. When you buy a ticket, your contract for attendance is with the organiser, and revel’s role is to provide the Platform and collect payment for the organiser. Venues, performers, sponsors and vendors are engaged by the organiser and are not our agents.
Other terms that apply
An organiser may set conditions for their event, such as an age limit, a dress code or a refund policy, on the event page. These apply to your attendance alongside these Terms. If an event’s conditions conflict with these Terms, these Terms prevail, except where the event’s conditions give you more rights. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal data. A separate written agreement signed by revel overrides these Terms to the extent it says so.
Nothing in these Terms takes away rights you have under the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act 2018 (“FCCPA”) or any other law that cannot be excluded by contract.

3.Eligibility and accounts
Who can use the Platform
You must be at least 18 and able to enter into a binding contract to create an organiser account. Anyone may browse events. Under-18s may attend events where the organiser allows it, but a parent or guardian should complete the purchase. We do not verify age, so organisers are responsible for enforcing any age limit at the door.
Your account
- Give accurate information when you sign up and keep it up to date.
- Keep your password, your authenticator app and your recovery codes secret. You are responsible for activity on your account unless it results from our failure to keep the Platform reasonably secure.
- Two-factor authentication is optional for signing in, but you must turn it on to add a payout account or request a withdrawal. If you choose to stay signed in, or to skip the code on a browser, only do so on a device you trust.
- Do not impersonate anyone, open accounts in someone else’s name without authority, create accounts to evade a suspension, or access another person’s account.
- Tell us straight away at [email protected] if you think your account has been accessed without permission. Change your password immediately.
We may restrict, suspend or close accounts in the circumstances in section 19.
4.Event listings
Organisers create Events, set their details and Tickets, and may edit them until the Event starts. Events are listed publicly only when they are published.
What a listing must include
A listing must accurately describe the Event, including its name, date, start and end times, Venue and address (or how to join an online event), the Ticket types and prices, any age limit or admission conditions, accessibility information where relevant, and the Organiser’s refund policy (see section 9). Organisers must update a listing promptly if anything material changes.
Our checks and their limits
We do not verify organisers’ identity or check that Events will go ahead as described, and we do not approve listings before they are published. The fact that an Event appears on the Platform is not an endorsement or guarantee by revel. If you have concerns about an Event, report it to us (see section 18).
Promotion
The Platform does not currently offer paid, sponsored or featured listings, and no Organiser pays to appear higher. When you search, results are ordered by how well they match your search. If we introduce paid placement, we will label it clearly.
Prohibited events
You must not list an Event that:
- is unlawful or would involve unlawful activity;
- does not exist, or is listed to collect money without intending to hold it;
- is misleading about who is organising or performing, or about what attendees will receive;
- you do not have authority to sell tickets for, or that infringes someone else’s rights;
- promotes violence, hatred or discrimination, or exploits children; or
- poses a serious risk to the health or safety of attendees.
We may remove or unpublish a listing that breaches these Terms or that we reasonably believe puts Users at risk. Where practical, we will tell the Organiser why and give them a chance to fix the issue first. If we remove a listing for an Event that has sold Tickets, section 9 applies.
5.Organisers’ obligations
If you are an Organiser, you are responsible for your Event. You must:
- have the authority to organise, advertise and sell tickets for the Event;
- keep the listing accurate and tell Attendees promptly about any cancellation, postponement or material change;
- obtain and comply with all permits, licences, venue permissions, performer and supplier agreements, insurance and other legal requirements for the Event;
- provide adequate security, crowd management, health and safety arrangements, and reasonable accessibility for disabled Attendees;
- hold the rights, licences and consents needed for the names, logos, images, music, video and other material in your listing and at the Event;
- not sell more Tickets than the Venue can safely hold, and admit every Attendee who presents a valid, unused Ticket unless they breach the Event’s published conditions or the law;
- handle Attendees’ complaints, and honour refunds in line with section 9 and the law;
- take responsibility for your staff, contractors, performers, vendors and venue personnel;
- use Attendees’ personal data only to run the Event, handle enquiries and meet legal obligations, unless you have your own lawful basis under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 for more, and keep it secure; and
- not engage in fraudulent, deceptive or discriminatory practices, including fake scarcity, hidden charges or false claims about the Event.
You are responsible for any taxes due on your ticket revenue, unless the law requires us to collect or withhold them.
6.Buying tickets
How it works
Choose your Tickets on the Event page, enter your details and confirm the total. For paid Tickets you are taken to our payment provider’s secure page to pay. Your Order is confirmed only when the payment succeeds. An unpaid Order lapses after 10 minutes. Tickets are not held for you while you pay, so a Ticket type can sell out before your payment completes; if that happens, see “Payment problems” below.
Your tickets
Once your Order is confirmed, we email your Tickets to the address you entered. Each Ticket has a unique QR code and check-in code. Check your email address carefully, because anyone holding the code can use the Ticket. Each code can be used to check in once; a duplicate or copied code will be refused after the first use.
If you don’t receive your Tickets within an hour, check your spam folder and then contact us at [email protected] with your name and the email address you used. We will re-send them once we have verified your Order.
Transfers and resale
The Platform does not currently support transferring Tickets to another person or reselling them. Organisers may prohibit transfer or resale in their Event conditions. Tickets bought for resale at a profit without the Organiser’s permission may be cancelled under the procedure below.
Admission
Admission is controlled by the Organiser and the Venue. You may be refused entry, or asked to leave, if you do not meet the Event’s published conditions (such as an age limit), present a Ticket that has already been used, or behave in a way that is unsafe or unlawful. A refusal for one of these reasons does not entitle you to a refund unless the law or section 9 says otherwise.
Payment problems
- Failed or abandoned payment: if the payment does not go through, no Order is created. If money left your account anyway, it is usually reversed by your bank or the payment provider; if it isn’t, contact us and we will investigate.
- Charged but no Ticket: contact us with the payment reference. If we confirm the payment, we will issue your Tickets or, if the Event has sold out, refund you in full.
- Charged twice: we will refund the duplicate payment in full once confirmed.
- Unauthorised payment: if someone used your card without permission, contact your bank and us.
When we may cancel an Order
We or the Organiser may cancel an Order or invalidate Tickets where there is clear evidence of fraud, payment that has been reversed or charged back, a pricing error that you would reasonably have recognised, or purchase in breach of an Event’s published limits. We will tell you, give you a chance to explain where practical, and refund any amount paid unless the Order was fraudulent.
7.Prices, fees and payments
What you pay
Prices are in Nigerian Naira (₦). Before you pay, checkout shows the Face value of each Ticket, any Fees and the total amount payable. You will not be charged more than the total shown.
Fees cover revel’s service and payment processing. They are shown at checkout before you pay and are non-refundable, including when an Event is cancelled, postponed or changed.
Organisers may offer free Tickets, discounted prices or discount codes. A discount code is set by the Organiser for their Event, may be limited by Ticket type, date or number of uses, and reduces the Face value only. Fees are calculated on the full Face value and are not reduced by a discount code. A code can be withdrawn by the Organiser, and only one code can be used per order.
How payments are processed
Payments are processed by our third-party payment providers (Bachs and Paystack) on their own secure pages, under their own terms. We do not see or store your card details. Ticket payments are received into revel’s account with the payment provider, and revel collects them on behalf of the Organiser and records them in the Organiser’s Wallet. Payouts to Organisers are sent by Bachs: when an Organiser adds a payout account, Bachs opens a recipient account in the Organiser’s name to receive and pay out their withdrawals, under Bachs’ own terms.
Chargebacks and disputes
If you dispute a payment with your bank, please contact us too, as we can often resolve the issue faster. Where a payment is reversed through a chargeback, the related Tickets may be cancelled.
8.Organiser payouts
When a Ticket payment is confirmed, the Organiser’s share is credited to the Organiser’s Wallet, where every transaction is listed.
- When money becomes available: money from a Ticket sale is held until 24 hours after the Event’s end time. For a recurring Event, that is 24 hours after its last date. If an Event is postponed, its money stays on hold until 24 hours after the new end time. The Wallet shows what is on hold and when it is released.
- Payout accounts: withdrawals can only be paid to a Nigerian bank account in the Organiser’s own name or their organisation’s name on the Platform. We check the account name with our payment partner when it is added. We review the first withdrawal to an account in an organisation’s name before paying it.
- Requesting a withdrawal: an Organiser can request any amount of their available balance, from ₦100. Each request needs a code from the Organiser’s authenticator app. revel reviews every request before it is paid, and approved withdrawals are paid through Bachs to the chosen bank account.
- Withdrawal fee: a fee is charged for each withdrawal, added on top of the amount withdrawn and taken from the Wallet. The fee is currently ₦200. The current fee and the total leaving the Wallet are shown before you confirm a request. We may change the fee for future withdrawals; a request is charged the fee shown when it was made.
- Security pauses: if our support team resets your two-factor authentication at your request, withdrawals and new payout accounts are paused for 24 hours, to protect your money if the request was not really from you.
- Refunds and chargebacks: amounts refunded to Attendees or reversed by chargeback are deducted from the Organiser’s Wallet. If the balance is not enough, the Organiser must repay the shortfall on request.
- Failed payouts: if a bank or our payment partner rejects a withdrawal, we tell you, and we either send it again or return the full amount, including the withdrawal fee, to your Wallet. Check your bank details carefully: we are not responsible for payments made to incorrect details you provide.
- Holds: we may delay a withdrawal while we investigate suspected fraud, a serious complaint about the Event, or a legal requirement, for no longer than reasonably necessary. We will tell you why unless the law prevents us.
9.Cancellations, postponements and refunds
The FCCPA protects consumers who pay for services. Nothing in this section limits those rights, and we do not apply a blanket “no refunds” rule.
If the Organiser cancels the Event
You are entitled to a refund of the Face value of your Tickets. Fees are non-refundable (see section 7). You do not need to ask: we will arrange your refund to the original payment method without undue delay after the cancellation.
If revel removes the Event
If we remove an Event under section 4 and it will not go ahead, it is treated as a cancellation by the Organiser, and you will receive a refund as above.
If the Event is postponed or materially changed
Your Ticket remains valid for the new date. If the date, Venue (to a materially different location), headline act or format changes in a way that materially affects the Event, you may instead ask for a refund of the Face value within a reasonable time of being told about the change.
If you can no longer attend
If the Event page states a refund policy, it applies. If an Organiser keeps part of the payment when you cancel, the amount must be a reasonable cancellation charge, as the FCCPA requires, and must be made clear to you before you buy. If you simply do not turn up, you are not entitled to a refund unless the Event’s policy says so. If you are unsure, contact us before the Event.
Errors, duplicate charges and fraud
Duplicate or erroneous charges are refunded in full (see section 6). Orders cancelled for fraud are not refunded to the person who committed it, but the true cardholder will be refunded.
Events affected by circumstances beyond control
If an Event cannot go ahead because of events beyond the Organiser’s reasonable control, such as severe weather, a public health order, civil unrest or a government directive, it is treated as a cancellation or postponement under this section, and your refund rights above still apply.
Who is responsible and how to ask
The Organiser is responsible for refunds for their Event, and revel administers them through the Platform from the Organiser’s Wallet and our payment providers. To request a refund, email [email protected] with your order details. Refunds go back to the original payment method. Once we send a refund, your bank or payment provider may take several working days to show it.
10.Your conduct
When using the Platform you must not:
- commit fraud, use stolen payment details, or abuse refunds or chargebacks;
- manipulate ticket availability, buy Tickets in bulk to resell them without the Organiser’s permission, or take payment for an Event outside the Platform to avoid its processes;
- harass, threaten, abuse or discriminate against anyone, including Organisers, Attendees and our staff;
- send spam or misleading advertising, or impersonate any person or organisation;
- upload malware, probe or attack the Platform’s security, or access data or accounts you are not authorised to access, which may also be an offence under the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act;
- scrape the Platform or use bots or other automated means to access it or buy Tickets, except as we expressly permit;
- infringe anyone’s intellectual property or privacy; or
- interfere with the Platform or with other people’s use of it.
We may investigate suspected breaches and act proportionately, from a warning to removing content or suspending an account (see section 19). You can ask us to review a decision (see section 18).
11.Content and intellectual property
Our intellectual property
The Platform, including its software, design, text, graphics and the revel name and logo, belongs to revel or our licensors and is protected by the Copyright Act 2022, the Trade Marks Act and other laws. We give you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Platform for its intended purpose. You must not copy, modify, reverse-engineer or commercially exploit any part of it, except as the law allows.
Your content
You keep ownership of User Content you submit. You give revel a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to host, store, reproduce, display and adapt (for example, resize) your User Content in order to operate the Platform, show your Event to the public and to Attendees, and promote your Event on the Platform. If we want to use your content to promote revel itself, for example in advertising or on social media, we will ask you first. The licence ends when you remove the content or close your account, except where we must keep it to comply with the law or resolve a dispute.
You confirm that you own your User Content or have the rights needed to grant this licence, and that it does not infringe anyone’s rights or break the law.
Copyright complaints
If you believe content on the Platform infringes your copyright, send a notice to [email protected] with:
- your name and contact details;
- the work you say is infringed;
- where the content is on the Platform (for example, its link);
- a statement that you believe in good faith that the use is not authorised; and
- a statement that the information is accurate and that you are the owner or authorised to act for the owner.
We will act promptly: we will tell the User who posted the content, take it down or disable access to it where appropriate, and let them respond. If they show the use is lawful, we may restore it. We will suspend or close the accounts of Users who repeatedly infringe, and Users can challenge a repeat-infringement decision through section 18.
12.Photography, video and publicity
- Content uploaded by Organisers: the Organiser must have the rights and any consents needed for it, including from identifiable people in photos and videos.
- Filming at Events: Organisers, Venues and photographers they engage may photograph, film or livestream an Event. The Organiser must tell Attendees in advance, for example in the listing and with signs at the Venue, and must comply with data protection law when people can be identified.
- revel: we do not photograph or film Events. If we ever do, we will give notice at the Event and handle any images in line with our Privacy Policy.
- Other Attendees: photos taken by Attendees are their responsibility. Respect other people’s privacy and the Event’s rules on recording.
- Performers and music: recording or livestreaming a performance may need the performers’ and rights holders’ permission. The Organiser is responsible for obtaining it.
Accepting these Terms is not consent to every use of your image or personal data. Where consent is needed, it must be obtained separately and specifically, for example by the Organiser at the Event.
13.Safety at events
Your attendance is subject to the Venue’s rules and the Event’s conditions. Follow the law and reasonable safety instructions from the Organiser, Venue staff and authorities.
The Organiser is responsible for matters within their control at the Event, including security, crowd management and the condition of the Venue. revel does not run Events and is not present at them.
If something happens at an Event that puts people at risk, contact the emergency services first if needed. Then report it to the Organiser and to us at [email protected]. We will cooperate with the authorities as the law requires and may suspend an Event or Organiser while we look into serious concerns.
14.Third-party services
The Platform relies on third-party services, including payment providers, email delivery and hosting, and links to other websites such as Organisers’ social media pages. Your use of a third party’s own service, such as a payment page, is also governed by that party’s terms. We choose our providers with care and remain responsible to you for the obligations the law places on us, but we are not responsible for the content of websites we do not control.
15.Availability and changes to the Platform
We work to keep the Platform available and secure, but we cannot promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free. We may need to suspend it for maintenance, updates or security reasons, and will try to give notice of planned downtime and to restore the service as quickly as reasonably possible after an outage.
We may change, add or remove features. If a change significantly affects organisers, such as the removal of a feature you rely on, we will give reasonable notice. Features we label as “beta” are still being tested and may change or be withdrawn.
16.Our liability
What we are responsible for
We are responsible for loss you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breach of these Terms or our failure to use reasonable care and skill. Loss is foreseeable if it was obvious it would happen or if both you and we knew it might happen when you accepted these Terms.
What we are not responsible for
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for:
- the Event itself, including its cancellation, quality, safety or content, which is the Organiser’s responsibility, except for our own obligations under section 9;
- the acts or omissions of Organisers, Venues, performers or other Users;
- loss caused by events beyond our reasonable control, such as power or network failures outside our systems; or
- for organisers, loss of profit, revenue or business opportunity.
Limit
Subject to the next paragraph, our total liability to you for all claims connected with an Order is limited to the amount you paid for that Order.
What we do not exclude
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for fraud, deliberate wrongdoing, death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under Nigerian law, including your rights under the FCCPA.
17.Indemnity
If you are an Organiser, you agree to compensate revel for reasonable losses, costs (including reasonable legal costs) and liabilities we incur because of a third-party claim arising from:
- your Event, including refunds owed to Attendees;
- your User Content infringing someone’s rights;
- your breach of these Terms or the law, including data protection law.
This does not apply to the extent the loss was caused by our own breach or negligence. We will tell you promptly about any claim, let you take part in defending it, and not settle it without consulting you.
18.Complaints and disputes
Telling us about a problem
Contact us at [email protected] about any concern with an Event, a User, a payment or your safety, or to ask us to review a decision we have made. Include your order details or the Event link. We will acknowledge your complaint promptly and aim to resolve it as quickly as we reasonably can. If you are not satisfied with the first response, you can ask for it to be reviewed by a senior member of our team.
Resolving disputes
We will try to resolve any dispute in good faith. If we cannot, either of us may propose mediation before going to court. This does not stop you from going to court or to a regulator.
You can also complain to the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (fccpc.gov.ng) about consumer issues, or the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (ndpc.gov.ng) about personal data.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The Nigerian courts with jurisdiction will decide disputes, subject to any mandatory rights you have as a consumer.
19.Suspension and termination
You may stop using the Platform at any time. To close an organiser account, email [email protected]. There is not yet a way to do this from the dashboard.
We may suspend or restrict your account, or remove an Event, if you seriously or repeatedly breach these Terms, if we reasonably suspect fraud or a risk to Users, or if the law requires it. Where practical, and unless the law or an investigation prevents it, we will warn you first, tell you why, and give you a chance to respond. We may close an account after a suspension if the issue is not resolved.
When an organiser account is closed or suspended:
- Tickets already sold remain valid unless the Event is cancelled, and the Organiser’s obligations to Attendees, including refunds, continue;
- the Organiser’s available Wallet balance will be paid out, less any refunds, chargebacks or amounts owed, unless the law requires us to hold it; and
- you can ask us for a copy of your records, such as sales reports.
Sections that by their nature should continue after these Terms end, including those on refunds, intellectual property, liability, indemnity and disputes, continue to apply.
20.General
- Changes to these Terms: we may update these Terms to reflect changes to the law or the Platform. We will give organisers reasonable notice of material changes by email and on the Platform, and show the date they take effect. Changes do not affect Orders already placed. If you do not agree to a change, you can stop using the Platform and close your account.
- Events beyond our control: we are not in breach of these Terms for delays or failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control. This does not affect Attendees’ refund rights in section 9.
- Notices: we may send notices to the email address on your account or Order, and you can send them to [email protected]. Electronic notices have the same effect as written ones.
- Transfer: we may transfer our rights and obligations under these Terms to another organisation if it does not reduce your rights. You may not transfer yours without our consent.
- Severability: if a court finds part of these Terms unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
- No waiver: if we delay enforcing these Terms, we can still enforce them later.
- Entire agreement: these Terms, the Event conditions and our Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about the Platform, subject to section 1.
